Ok, I know... It's been a LONG time! Well I guess a "long time" could be a relative term but in this case it has been far to long since I've taken the time to sit down and just write a few words for this blog. It goes without saying that I have been busy but the other interesting thing is that I've really missed being 'here' and doing 'this'.

Since my last entry I've travelled to Guyana in South America and shot Kaieteur Falls, that was an amazing experience. Not only have I never been to Guyana before but I had a chance to do what some of my friends who were born there (Martin, Marlon & Greg) never did, stand next, look over the edge of and photograph the mighty Kaieteur. If you've never been I highly recommend it. Before you go be sure to look up Roraima Airways and Tours, they will take exceptional care of you.

This past summer I also started shooting with the Canon 1D Mark IV. This camera is a little slice of heaven and after a quick trip through Lightroom 3, the images speak for themselves. There has been a lot of buzz about the 1D X, I hope to try one out soon and I'll let you know what I think.

Over this past summer it's been all about the wedding shoot. So many shoots and in the middle of processing images I've upgraded computer systems, iMac and i7 work so well together! I'll post more wedding shots before the end of the year, YES I will! For now these are a couple shots from Christine and Steve's wedding, and a shot of ME shoot Kaieteur.

For a moment there, I thought I was smelling smoke. Then it hit me, they performers were burning up the dance floor.

Once again 2SOME DANCE has produce a dance production event with quality, class and style. The weekend event at the Old Mill featured world class dance talent and also showcase some local Toronto talent as well.

It's one thing to see some of these great performers on television, but when you see them perform live it takes everything to a new level.
VIDA photography would like to thank Ben and Emmanule and everyone involved with 2SOME DANCE for the the opportunity to attend the event and capture a small part of it in photographs.

Be sure to check out all of the photographs at www.vidaphoto.ca.

This event is huge and will only be once a year. The date is already set for 2011 so be sure to visit 2SOMEDANCE.COM get registered.

Take care and see you next time.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

So with most of the GTA salsa community in Montreal for Salsa Glam, VIDA photography stayed local and when to the Toronto Dance Salsa event at the Acrobat lounge. TDS did a good job of organizing the event with Acrobat management however it was not as well attended as some would have hoped. Despite this the dance card game, the hats and noise makers, and a couple of performances from some talented up and coming salsa dancers made the evening enjoyable.

I know you enjoy these photos of the event, if you'd like to see more please visit my website at vidaphoto.ca where you can order and download your selections.

VIDA photography would like to wish everyone a very HAPPY, SAFE and HEALTHY new year.

Be careful when planning a shoot in June of 2010!

I know, you don't hear from me for a month and then I have two posts in one day. This one is very important. If you are planning a major shoot like a wedding or other major event in June of 2010, think about rescheduling. The GTA will be hosting the G8 and G20 summits. These events will take over most major venues in the city and just about every nice hotel room. I've already had one couple call me to reschedule their wedding shoot to early July.

Smaller shoots like engagements or sporting events will likely be Ok.

Just a heads up from VIDA photography.

Ok so it's been a while, not been here in over a month! I know I've not done so, so I'll wish everyone a Merry Christmas or Happy whatever you celebrate during this time of year.

I've managed to somehow overlook the Canada Salsa Congress shoot. 4 days and over 4,000 images taken! This was once again an outstanding event and hats and camera lens caps off to Jennifer Aucoin for producing a great event now in its 7th year!

This is basically a Salsa event but for me the stand outs were the "non-salsa stuff". By that I mean things like Bachata, Latin Hustle, and great performances to non-latin music. Topping the list this year were once again one of my personal favorites, City Dance Corps. I don't know how these guys do it but year after year the produce some of the most innovative choreography combined with simple, timely and relevant costumes to make the viewing and photographing experience one of a kind.

Who will ever forget the Smooth Operator. Clifton Stennett and Andrea Hanak brought the house down with a smooth and sexy routine performed to the classic number. How hot was it? Well I think the census bureau should to see if there is a spike in the GTA's population approximately 9 months from this event.

Enjoy the photos and see you all next year and the Harbor Castle Westin Hotel October 7-11, 2010 for the 8th annual installment of this flagship event.

Corey & Akiko's engagement shoot

I have just finish posting the engagement photos for Corey and Akiko to their private gallery. This young, dynamic and energetic couple make it so easy to be a photographer.

Their fun loving and outgoing personalities come through in each photograph and it was such a pleasure working with them. Corey and Akiko, thanks so much for making my job easy and I can’t wait to shoot your wedding next summer!

All photos were shot in Toronto’s Distillery District. This area is an eclectic mix of old world charm and modern elements against an urban backdrop. This is a photographer’s dream for finding such diversity in a small walking distance area.
